There has been a tremendous buzz about “The Law Of Attraction”, “The Secret”, “What The Bleep?”. When I first saw the films, I was abuzz myself, entirely swept up, and believing that what they were telling me was true. That everyone of us can manifest our hearts desire by consistently directing our mental focus back to the object of our desire, whatever that may be: a house, a job, more money, a relationship … the list is endless.
If only it were that simple. I am not saying it is not true. In fact, I believe it is true. But, I also know now, having researched and learnt a whole lot more about the phenomena, that there is a whole lot more to it than just thinking about it.
Concentrated direct mental focus (intending) is a whole lot harder than is acknowledged in the films. In fact, I would say that to have a disciplined mind consistently focussed as desired, is probably the hardest thing that any human being can achieve. If you don’t believe me, just sit for five minutes and try and control exactly where your thoughts go for five minutes, try and stay conscious to how they travel from thought to thought, and you’ll know what I am talking about. This is the pursuit of the great mystics of the world: Aurobindo, Buddha, Gurdjieff, Nanak, Jesus, Krishnamurti … to name but a few. They each in their own way were devoted to understanding and gaining mastery over their own minds for they understood that the mind is the doorway to understanding and creating reality.
In naming some of these mystics, I am not condoning or advocating any of them in any particular way. Nor am I in disagreement about their intent as others deem them, but I do believe that we are now of an age where looking to others to understand our own unique essence is outdated. That is not to say teachers do not have a place, but I do think one must become one’s own master. My point in naming some of these mystics is merely to demonstrate the degree of dedication one might realise is necessary in harnessing the power of the mind.
Most of us do not have the calling to be a great mystic, but most of us would like to gain more control over our lives and we can use the same practices used by the masters to gain entry to the doorway of self-mastery. We can take up the practice of becoming aware. Aware of what our minds are creating from moment to moment. Gaining such awareness takes time, effort and real desire. It is wholly achievable.
In weeks to come, this blog will be posting all the things that I have thus discovered and use in my own process of self-mastery. It will explain how thought behaviour effects all the outcomes in our life and how, by modifying and disciplining our thought behaviour we can redirect the manifesting potential that is ceaselessly occurring within our lives. This is the real stuff, the real work of the “Law Of Attraction”
